Community Legal Service (CLS) Program of ACLAB

Alliance for Cooperation and Legal Aid
Bangladesh (ACLAB) has been implementing Community Legal Service (CLS) Program
in Mohammadpur and Savar areas in Dhaka district among poor and marginalized
people supported by Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) funded by
Department for International Development (DFID) consortium consisting of
Maxwell Stamp PLC through UK AID and British Council Bangladesh and Centre for
Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) as partner. ACLAB CLS program aims to
provide greater access to justice poor and marginalized people in Bangladesh.
ACLAB has been providing
the following services under the CLS program:
1.
Organized
community awareness meeting at local level
2.
Provide
financial aid the community legal programs and beneficiaries
3.
Minimize
Community crime and corruption through legal awareness
4.
Dismiss
community dispute through linkage and support to poor, marginalize and victims
5.
Connecting
victims with the law enforcement agencies and local & national level legal
services of government
6.
Provide
legal support through court
7.
Make
regular communication with the victims and overall support delivery
8.
Advocacy
and sensitization meeting
9.
Human
rights related legal information dissemination
10. Advocacy meeting at national level
Result of the CLS
program has been appeared:
1.
Raised
legal awareness and human rights issues among the sex workers, working
children, and slum women,
2.
People
are concerned about legal rights and jurisdiction system, so some beneficiaries
were capable to take legal action
3.
Community
people accepted this initiative of legal service program
4.
CLS
program improved stamina of beneficiaries
ACLAB has been implementing CLS
program into the targeted community with the participation of beneficiaries,
community leaders, and community people, local government’s representatives,
local NGOs and CBOs representatives, and others stakeholders through campaign,
meeting, rally, human chain, and others.
